jq Playground
Run jq programs or JSONPath queries against JSON and see results live.
Writing a jq filter usually means trial and error in a terminal or on a website you paste data into. The jq Playground in HackUtilities evaluates your query against the JSON you supply and updates the output as you type. It runs on your machine, so responses with tokens or personal data never leave it.
jq syntax via jaq
jq programs run through jaq, a Rust implementation of jq, using its core, standard and JSON definitions. It is not the original jq binary, so a few edge cases can differ.
JSONPath mode
Switch to JSONPath and query with expressions such as $..name or $.users[?(@.age > 40)]. Each match is printed as pretty JSON.
Live results
The query is re-evaluated shortly after you stop typing, and errors such as invalid input JSON or a jq syntax error appear in place of the output.

jq mode returns at most 10,000 output values per run, which keeps the app responsive on filters that expand a lot.
Is this the real jq?
It uses jaq, a Rust reimplementation that follows jq syntax. Common filters like select, map, group_by and sort_by work, but behavior can differ from jq in rare cases.
Does it support JSONPath?
Yes. Switch the mode to JSONPath and enter an expression that starts with $. Results are listed as formatted JSON.
