GitHub Actions Generator
Build GitHub Actions workflow YAML from triggers, jobs and starter templates.
Writing a workflow file from memory means looking up trigger names, runner labels and action versions each time. The GitHub Actions Generator in HackUtilities lets you pick triggers, add jobs and steps, and produces the workflow YAML. It generates the file locally and never connects to GitHub.
Starter templates
Load Node.js CI, Docker build and push, Python testing, security scanning (Trivy and CodeQL) or multi-OS testing as a starting point.
Trigger selection
Choose from push, pull request, schedule, manual dispatch, release, issues and PR review. Push and pull request use the main and develop branches, and schedule adds a weekly cron entry.
Jobs, runners and steps
Add multiple jobs, choose a runner such as ubuntu-latest, windows-latest or macos-latest, and edit each step's name, action or shell command.
Copy or download
Copy the generated YAML or download it as a file, ready to place under .github/workflows.
Does the generator validate my workflow against GitHub's schema?
No. It assembles YAML from your choices and templates. Check the result with a YAML validator and by pushing it to a branch, since action versions and secrets are up to you.
Where do I save the generated file?
Put it in a .github/workflows directory in your repository with a .yml extension, for example .github/workflows/ci.yml.
