URL Converter
Encode and decode URLs and query strings in either direction.
Special characters in a URL break links, and double encoding is easy to miss. The URL Converter encodes and decodes text with the same rules as JavaScript, either for a single component such as a query value or for a whole URL. It works entirely in the app, so URLs containing tokens or internal hostnames stay on your machine.
Component or full URL
Use Component mode (encodeURIComponent) for query values, or Full URL mode (encodeURI) to keep separators such as : / ? and & intact.
Encode and decode
Switch between encoding and decoding. Invalid percent sequences show an error message instead of a wrong result.
Swap input and output
Swap moves the result back into the input and flips the mode, which is handy for checking a round trip.

What is the difference between encoding a component and a full URL?
Component mode encodes reserved characters such as / ? & = and #, so the text is safe inside a query value. Full URL mode leaves those characters alone and only encodes characters that are not valid in a URL, so the structure is preserved.
Is a space encoded as %20 or a plus sign?
This tool encodes a space as %20, and a plus sign is encoded as %2B in Component mode. It does not use the plus form for spaces that HTML forms use.
