Verifying a download or comparing two files means running a hash and comparing long hex strings by eye. The Hash Generator in HackUtilities hashes text as you type and hashes files you drop in, then highlights any result that matches the checksum you paste. Files are read from disk by the native app, so large images and archives are not uploaded or loaded into a browser tab.
Seven algorithms
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, BLAKE3 and CRC32. Text hashes update live and show the byte count of the UTF-8 input.
File hashing
Drop one or more files, pick the algorithms you want, and hash them. Each file is read in a single streaming pass in 1 MB chunks, so memory use stays flat for large files.
Checksum verification
Paste an expected hash and matching results are highlighted. For files, the tool tells you whether any file matches or none does. Comparison ignores letter case.

Which algorithm should I use to verify a download?
Use the one the publisher lists, most often SHA-256. MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for catching corruption but are not collision resistant, so do not rely on them for security.
Can it hash very large files?
Yes. Files are streamed from disk in chunks rather than loaded fully into memory, so file size is limited by disk speed, not by the app.
